Flower Foundation expands outreach with elderly care training facility
The new training facility aims to equip future caregivers with practical skills and knowledge to support the growing demand for quality elderly care.
The Flower Foundation has expanded its outreach and community development initiatives through the establishment of a new training centre at Kensington Gardens in Johannesburg.
The centre was created to equip students with the knowledge, practical skills and core principles required for quality caregiving in the elderly care sector.
The year-long training programme aims to prepare students for meaningful employment opportunities in caring for older persons, while also addressing the growing need for compassionate and skilled caregivers within communities.
The initiative forms part of the foundation’s broader Outreach Programme, which focuses on community upliftment through education, empowerment and skills development.

The training centre is managed by Sr Nomvula Mbokazi together with Flower Foundation’s group compliance manager, René Baker, whose guidance and leadership helped bring the initiative to life.
The official launch of the training centre took place on May 6 and marked a significant milestone for the organisation. The event was attended by members of the Flower Foundation management board, senior management, stakeholders and the first intake of students beginning the programme.
Proceedings were led by Stanley Bawden and Nombuso Ramakgopa, who welcomed the students as they embarked on their learning journey.

The launch celebrated not only the opening of a new educational facility, but also the organisation’s continued commitment to investing in people, supporting community upliftment and shaping the future of elderly care through education and training.
“We wish all the students every success as they begin this journey, and trust that this opportunity will serve as a meaningful turning point in their careers and personal growth,” said Luisa Miranda, marketing manager at the foundation.
