Suspects arrested in Fleurs murder and hijacking case make court appearance

Six suspects were arrested for the alleged murder of Luke Fleurs. They made their first court appearance on April 12.

The six suspects who were arrested for the alleged murder and hijacking of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs made their first court appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on April 12.

Fleurs (24) was shot and killed before his car was hijacked at a petrol station in Constantia Park on April 3.

He entered the petrol station in his red VW Golf 8 GTI. Fleurs was accompanied by three other men who were identified as his friends. Two of the men went inside the garage to make a purchase while two armed men in a white BMW 1 Series, with an unknown registration, approached Fleurs as he was waiting to be helped by an attendant.

According to prosecutor Arnold Limekhaya, the six suspects, Ndumiso Ndura Mosiwane (26), Fernando Nando Sive (25), Nhlakanipho Dlamini (21), Franky Xaba (25), Maredi Mphahlele (36) and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu (31), are charged with murder, robbery and aggravation, possession of firearm and ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice.

The father of the deceased, Theodore Fleurs says it was hard seeing how young the six men linked to the murder are, and he has urged parents to be more involved in their children’s lives.

“The matter has been postponed to April 19, and the suspects remain in custody. Until then, all six have applied for legal aid representation and will make their second appearance for bail applications. Investigations are still pending relating to the applications brought forward by the accused, and no further arrests have been made by police,” says Phindi Mjonondwane, the regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority.
