Team effort foils Strubens house robbery

Swift action from armed response and law enforcement led to the arrest of four suspects.

A combined effort by Beagle Watch Armed Response with the assistance from CCTV Control Room, JMPD’s control room members, and the Specialised Crime Unit resulted in the successful apprehension of four suspects linked to a house robbery in Strubens Valley.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday, January 15, when the team received a notification to track a vehicle connected to the robbery. According to Beagle Watch managing director Andre Aiton, the suspects’ attempt to flee the scene was prevented by the rapid response of the team, who called for backup and effectively blocked the vehicle at the corner of Shepherd Avenue and Frere Street in Vandia Grove.

A search of the vehicle yielded a cache of housebreaking tools, including crowbars, bolt cutters, and pickaxes, as well as false number plates, stolen cellphones and jewellery.

“The swift response highlights the importance of the Vumacam’s technology being instrumental in dispatching vehicles to investigate crimes and easily catch suspects on the run.

“The cameras are effective as a deterrent by being a visible presence, reminding criminals they are seen by security personnel monitoring the footage live. Security officials can often monitor a few different spaces at once and thus can respond promptly should an incident occur,” Aiton explains.

The swift action taken by the team not only ensured the suspects were brought to justice but also sent a strong message to potential perpetrators that crime would not be tolerated in the area.
