A routine evening turned tragic when a truck and a minibus taxi collided at the intersection of Hendrik Potgieter and Handicap Road, leaving one person dead and multiple others injured on Wednesday, April 2.

Emergency Control South Africa (ECSA) and Help24 EMS were first on the scene, and crews quickly secured the area and began treating patients, with no entrapments reported. Due to the severity of the incident, additional ambulances and Advanced Life Support paramedics were called in to assist.

Patients with injuries ranging from minor to serious were stabilised and transported to nearby hospitals. Sadly, one person died at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.

ECSA spokesperson Pieter Boshoff expressed his condolences and praised the teamwork among responding agencies.
“This was a tragic scene, and our hearts go out to the family of the deceased. We are incredibly grateful to all our partners who responded quickly and worked together to care for the injured. This kind of collaboration saves lives,” Boshoff said.
