Manhunt launched after deadly shooting in Roodepoort

Police have turned to the community, asking anyone to come forward with any information that may help apprehend the suspect.

Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the whereabouts and arrest of Zimbabwean national Jabulani Moyo after this morning’s, August 8, fatal shooting of two police officers in the Roodepoort CBD.

Provincial police spokesperson Lt Colonel Mavela Masondo has confirmed that a manhunt has been launched for the suspect, who is thought to have shot and killed the officers who were transporting him back to prison from Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, after appearing concerning a 2023 business robbery.

“The two police officers, a sergeant and a warrant officer, were shot at and disarmed. The sergeant was certified dead on the crime scene, while the warrant officer was taken to the hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival.

“Moyo was seen driving the police vehicle that was later found abandoned a few kilometres from the crime scene.”

Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspect to call the nearest police station, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Information can also be given anonymously via the MySAPS App, which can be downloaded from any smartphone.
