City of Johannesburg EMS warns against recruitment scams

The entity is currently conducting physical assessments and interviews, and is warning applicants of fraudulent activities.

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (CoJEMS) is cautioning the public against fraudulent activities related to its firefighter recruitment process, which is currently underway.

According to a statement shared by CoJEMS spokesperson Robert Malaudzi, the CoJ is currently conducting physical fitness assessments and interviews as part of its firefighter recruitment process.

It warns that no city official, employee, or representative is authorised to solicit money or any other benefit in exchange for employment or preferential treatment.

“Citizens need to be aware that the department does not charge, demand or request any form of payment for employment opportunities, recruitment processes, interviews, or placements,” their statement read.

“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any individual or group demanding or requesting money in exchange for opportunities,” it continued.

Suspected cases of fraud, corruption, or unethical conduct can be reported to the Group Forensic and Investigation Service Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline on 0800 002 587.
