IIE MSA Cares celebrate freedom by planting sustainable vegetable garden

Umnotho for Empowerment serve 150 lunches daily, all supplemented by their own vegetable gardens.

If cultivated correctly, fruitful tomorrows can sprout from wholesome ideas.

In a heartwarming display of ubuntu, community spirit and the promotion of sustainable living, IIE MSA Cares donated compost, seeds and their labour to Umnotho for Empowerment. The volunteer student groups planted carrot, tomato, potato, cabbage and spinach seeds during the Umnotho for Empowerment’s Freedom Day vegetable garden event in Mulddersdrift on April 28.

Umnotho for Empowerment is a non-profit organisation that provides support to underprivileged communities in the area. They provide food assistance to families in need through a nutrition centre that serves a balanced lunch daily to 150 people from the community. Much of the produce used is sourced from the sustainable fresh produce grown in their vegetable gardens.

Human Resources and Administration Manager Umnotho for Empowerment, Lebo Sekhotla, said, “We are so grateful to IIE MSA for this. Your efforts will have a lasting impact on the Umnotho and the families it serves.”
