GrysPower gives power to senior citizens
The theme of this event was ‘Don’t let the old man in’, which is among many of American actor and filmmaker, Clint Eastwood’s references when it comes to age.
Senior citizens were treated to a VIP experience at a seminar In Gesprek Met Ina Wilken, presented by Ina Wilken from GreyPower/ GrysKrag at the Roodepoort Sentrum Vir Bejaardes (RSVB) on 14 June as part of its strategy to involve, mobilise and organise older people to its projects.
Ina, who is also the chairperson of the organisation, is in her mid-70s and is an advocate for the rights of the aged and says that it is important to involve the older population, to whom their projects are aimed, and to mobilise them in the plight against our current government.
The theme of this event was ‘Don’t let the old man in’, which is among many of American actor and filmmaker, Clint Eastwood’s references when it comes to age.
“There are always people who can not speak for themselves, therefore, with this organisation, we aim for a stronger and more unified voice,” Ina said.
Wilken noted the organisation aims to raise awareness around the quality of life and social security issues, while also representing seniors in dealing with government agencies regarding matters affecting seniors.
Age is all in the mind, as Ina puts it, and GrysKrag/ GreyPower says that people over the age of 50 should stand up for what is right.
As a result, Ina urged members to remain active by reading, talking, being actively involved in their communities and exercising compassion and empathy.
The organisation’s projects consist of monthly Bring-and-Tell events, which cover a wide range of topics such as retirement, housing and health.
