Police and CPF hold joint operations

Law enforcement agencies and CPF members took part in a crime prevention operation in Honeydew on Saturday, March 23.

Members of the Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) took part in a joint operation with other law enforcement agencies on the roads in Honeydew on Saturday evening as part of operation Shanela,

One of the operations carried out on the night was a roadblock held on a busy local road during which more than 1246 people, and 558 vehicles were searched.

Michael Steyn Honeydew CPF PRO says the operation was a huge success. “Our members assisted police and other law enforcement agencies to safely conduct their work on the night.

“We were joined by Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni, who led from the front during the operation,” says Steyn.

Police and CPF members searched 558 vehicles during operation Shanela on Saturday night.

Steyn says during the operation, traffic fines amounting to R24 000 were issued, 17 drunk drivers and 44 undocumented people were arrested.

Another 36 people were arrested for drinking in public while eight people were nabbed for illegal alcohol sales. Police also confiscated more than 450 litres of alcohol.

Two persons were arrested for theft, four for possession of drugs, and two for illicit cigarette sales.

Further arrests included one arrest for fraud, and two for operating an illegal second-hand shop.

“Operations like these help to stop crime in its tracks,” says Steyn. “It is great to see such good results and to be assured that such operations will continue in our area.”
