Teen dies in Ontdekkers collision
Police are investigating the circumstances after a 13-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck during the morning rush hour.
A 13-year-old schoolgirl died this morning after she was struck by a car while crossing Ontdekkers Road during the morning rush hour.
Ontdekkers Road, heading towards Johannesburg, was closed while emergency services and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) attended the scene, causing severe traffic congestion.
JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 07:00.
“Preliminary reports indicate that a grey Audi station wagon, driven by an adult female, was travelling east along Ontdekkers Road when it collided with a 13-year-old female pedestrian who was crossing the road from south to north,” he said.

“Tragically, the 13-year-old pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
“Her body has been transported to the Roodepoort State Mortuary. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.”
Fihla said a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is under way. A case will be opened at the Roodepoort Police Station for further investigation.
“The JMPD extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.”
