Two Crawfordians shine at top applicants function

Their exceptional academic excellence made them stand out among others.

Crawford International Ruimsig is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of two of its learners, Aedan Yates and Jason de Kock, who have been selected to attend the prestigious Wits Top Applicants Function.

Both learners are completing their final year at Crawford International and earned their invitations to this exclusive event which took place in September based on their outstanding Wits Admission Points Score (APS).

Reflecting on the event, Aedan shared his experience, highlighting the significance of the day and the opportunities it presented.

“On September 28, Jason and I had the privilege to attend the 2024 Wits Top Applicants Function, to which only 380 of the university’s applicants out of 100 000 were invited. The precondition to be invited was to achieve an APS score greater than or equal to 53 points,” Aedan said.

The day’s programme included a performance by the Wits CEM choir and an inspiring address by the university’s vice-chancellor. Following the opening ceremony, learners were given the chance to tour the faculties they had applied to, offering a glimpse into their future academic paths.

Aedan, who plans to pursue a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, toured the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, while Jason, with his sights set on a future in the sciences, explored the Science Faculty.

“The tour took me through the electrical, mechanical, and aeronautical engineering laboratories, and I even had the opportunity to sit in an ex-SANDF Mirage F1-CZ fighter aircraft,” Aedan recounted.

The tour concluded with a light lunch in the university’s Science Stadium.

Aedan’s experience only deepened his passion for his chosen field.

“This tour was truly eye-opening and has reaffirmed my desire to study Aeronautical Engineering in 2025, as the campus, equipment and syllabus are world-class,” he added.

“Both Aedan and Jason have made us proud with their exceptional achievements and their ambition to pursue their academic passions at Wits. Their accomplishments set a high standard and serve as an inspiration to their peers at Crawford International Ruimsig. Well done to you both, we are so proud!” expressed the school’s marketing director Lindsay van Boven.
