Women’s organisation supports local high school girls
The organisation donated sanitary towels to girls to alleviate period poverty.
The Roodepoort branch of the Vroue Landbou-unie (VLU) continued its commitment to social responsibility on October 30, with a generous donation of sanitary pads to the girls of Hoërskool Roodepoort.
For the second consecutive year, the organisation has recognised the essential needs of female learners, and they have made it their mission to provide them with these vital hygiene products.
This year’s donation consisted of 30 packets of sanitary pads.
“We acknowledge the importance of supporting our local community, particularly the young women who are the future leaders of our society,” says Malinda Raats, the chairperson of Roodepoort VLU.
The VLU is part of the Woman’s Agricultural Union, and the Roodepoort branch has been providing 71 years of long-standing community service this year.
They drive many charitable initiatives, including donations to schools, children’s homes, and organisations supporting abused children.
“Our theme is ‘Live in Full Colour’ and our project is Hef ‘n Kind Op. One of our study guides is women of today. This is the reason why we want to support learners and people in need.
“We have eight branches in the West Rand, and other branches in Limpopo, Free State, North West, and Mpumalanga. We are privileged to make a difference in our community,” she concludes.
