Discovery Primary Full Service School is beaming with pride after one of their learners, Luquen Johson, represented the school at the D12 Chess Championships.

His journey to the championships started at the Roodepoort League Tournament hosted at Laerskool Horison, where the school’s U13 team secured second place. He then competed in the Roodepoort Individual Tournament at Crawford International, where he earned two points and qualified for the D12 Championships.

At the district tournament held at HoĆ«rskool Roodepoort early in May, Luquen faced strong opposition from some of the region’s top-ranked schools. Despite the challenging and lengthy matches, he remained focused, determined and resilient throughout the competition.

Reflecting on the experience, Luquen said he was proud to have competed at such a high level and valued the opportunity to test his skills against some of the best young chess players in the district.
