The Covid-19 pandemic has taken its toll on all of us, whether mentally, physically or financially. During the past year, we have had to learn how to live with a highly contagious, and often deadly, virus while also managing our day-to-day lives.
We quickly had to adapt to performing simple tasks, like going shopping or going to work, with a lot of planning and careful consideration. I remember how nervous I felt the first time I had to leave the house for the office after the initial hard lockdown; it took me quite a while to muster up enough courage to put on my mask and leave the house, the brand-new mask feeling scratchy and uncomfortable on my face.
Today, almost a year later, I perform this task without much thought; that first, nervous outing only a distant memory. But, for many South African citizens, performing their daily duties is still a matter of life and death. These citizens are part of an elite group that is fighting the Covid-19 battle on the frontlines to keep the rest of us safe.
February is known as the month of love, making this the perfect time to show our love, appreciation and gratitude to these heroes. In an attempt to ensure they know they are appreciated, we will be running a campaign to share your messages of support, encouragement and thanks to these everyday heroes.
Your message can be to a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, police officer, a teacher, or even the cashier at your local supermarket. Let us unite and show them we love and care about them, but most of all, that we appreciate and are grateful for the sacrifices they make every day.
All you need to do is send your message and a photo of yourself to adeleb@caxton.co.za, and we will ensure these messages are published and shared with all.
Until next week, stay safe and look out for each other …
