Seven football players from Discovery Primary School are part of the Roodepoort South Football squad that was crowned the winner of the recently held Rynie Brandt Tournament.

The Roodepoort South team consists of 16 players, and almost half of them (seven) attend Discovery Primary School. Seven other players attend Florida Primary School and the remaining two players are pupils from Laerskool Roodebeeck.

Held over two days in early May at Panorama Primary School, the tournament saw six teams in Roodepoort namely East, South, Central, North-West, West and North compete for glory.

After winning the title, even better news filled the Roodepoort South team as three players, Sibong Phenduka, Keandré Damon and Razeen Bennett (all from Discovery Primary School) were included in the Roodepoort Primary School Football squad.

Head of Roodepoort Primary School Football, Graeme Moodie says, “The Rynie Brandt Tournament started two years ago and is a new way of putting together and selecting a Roodepoort Primary School Football squad.

“It is not just a platform for players to show what they’ve got as individuals, but an opportunity to scout for talent.”
