De Villiers named SA’s Cricketer of the Year

An evening to remember for the 30-year-old.

AB de Villiers was crowned South Africa’s eighth Cricketer of the Year when he received the 2014 award at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) banquet in Sandton on Wednesday evening.

The Proteas vice-captain joins Jacques Kallis (2004 and 2011), Makhaya Ntini (2005 and 2006), Shaun Pollock (2007), Dale Steyn (2008), Graeme Smith (2009), Hashim Amla (2010 and 2013) and Vernon Philander (2012)- all of who have previously obtained the title.

It was an evening to remember for the 30-year-old, who took home four awards in total, raking in the Castle Lager Test Cricketer of the Year, SA Players’ Player of the Year as well as SA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year.

The only prize that De Villiers did not receive for which he was nominated for was the Castle Lager ODI Player of the Year.

That prize went to Quinton de Kok, who scored four centuries in the period under review, including three in consecutive innings.
