De Jongh, Boshoff ruled out of first Wales test

De Jongh suffers chest infection, Boshoff an ankle injury.

Springboks Juan de Jongh and Marnitz Boshoff have been ruled out of Saturday’s test against Wales in Durban because of illness and injury respectively.

De Jongh was admitted to a Durban hospital on Sunday evening with a severe chest infection.

He is likely to be discharged by Wednesday, but will not be considered for the match against Wales this weekend.

Boshoff injured his ankle at training in Cape Town last week. He has a grade one ankle sprain and the Springbok medical team are hopeful that he will be able to start training again late this week.

A decision on both players’ further involvement in the Incoming Series will only be taken at a later stage and they will remain with the squad for the time being.

The Springboks take on Wales in the second test on June 21 in Nelspruit, before facing Scotland in a one-off test in Port Elizabeth a week later.
