Anderson through to quarterfinals

South African to face Radek Stepanek in the quarterfinals.

South African tennis star Kevin Anderson booked his place in the quarterfinals of the Aegon Championships at Queen’s following a 6-3 3-6 7-6(4) victory over Sergiy Stakhovsky on Thursday.

Anderson started the match poorly, losing his opening service game, but managed to bounce back to level the first set 3-3 on his fourth break point. The lanky player capitalised on another break point later to claim the first set 6-3.

The second set went the opposite way as Anderson eventually lost his serve after saving five break points.

The third set was also tightly-contested with both players holding on to serve, but in the end it was Anderson who held his nerve to win the crucial tie-break 7-4.

Anderson will now look to continue with his form when he faces Radek Stepanek in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.

Stepanek defeated defending champion Andy Murray ‘s in straight sets in the previous round, winning the match 7-6 (12-10) 6-2.
