Thimba wins big at Maheking

Eagle on the 18th does it for him.

Toto Thimba won the IGT Tour’s Maheking Pro-Am by one shot on Monday, to clinch the R200 000 event sponsored by North West Parks and Tourism Board.

Thimba put the seal on a magnificent performance with an eagle on the 18th to pip Pieter Kruger, who produced a late charge, to the tile.

Kruger reeled in two eagles and three birdies over the first 12 holes at Leopard Park Golf Club, but Thimba erased three bogeys with birdies at the second, 11th and 16th before he found the final hole from seven feet to card an eagle and clinch the title.

Thimba finished two-under-par 70 on 11-under-par 205 over the three days.

“This was a huge pay day for me,” Thimba told SuperSport.com.

“This victory is all down to what I learned from watching Adilson da Silva when I played with him in the final round of the Zambia Sugar Open.

“I applied everything I learned and it paid off.”

The victory marked Thimba’s third pro title, but the R50 000 first place cheque more than doubled his earnings from two wins on the Sunshine Tour’s Big Easy Tour.
