The two teams from Matholesville and Roodepoort respectively had a lot to showcase as they both initiated impressive attacks down the sides.
Gender-based violence is a profound and widespread problem in communities, and it also has a negative impact on almost every aspect of life.
Realising that South Africa is facing a crisis when it comes to gender-based violence, event organiser, Yandisa David Ntuli saw the need to organise an event that will be relevant and also be used as an educating platform.
Sunday, 16 November saw the Matholesville community being entertained by local football masters from the West Rand who took to the field in their attempt to raise awareness about gender-based violence.
The two teams from Matholesville and Roodepoort respectively had a lot to showcase as they both initiated impressive attacks down the sides.
As expected, the first goal came early with Matholesville taking advantage of a goal-keeping error that proved to be costly for the Roodepoort men as it was the first of three goals that followed.
Roodepoort got a chance to redeem themselves in their second match with the Councillor’s invitation side but failed once again as they could not ignite their planned comeback.
Councillor Sabelo Ngcane was part of the event and praised the good initiative that is aimed at teaching young men to take a stand against the abuse of women and children.
“We are simply saying no to the abuse of women and children. This event is all about us as men standing up and saying not in our name,” said Sabelo.
