Panorama Football Club invests time and resources in a women’s football programme
“The area is ripe for development and we know we will uncover some hidden gems here.”
For generations the focus of football development has been centred firmly around young boys. In 2021, Panorama Football Club will aim to make itself the new home of women’s football on the West Rand.
Taking their lead from the growing international appeal of women’s football, the club will be launching their pathway to stardom through their refurbished coaching structures. To help them realise this vision, the club has enlisted the talents of seasoned women’s coach and administrator, Greg Green, who leaves behind over a decade of dedicated service at Old Parktonian’s Football Club.
Greg has a proven track record and has propelled Old Parks into the upper levels of the women’s divisions. “The facilities at Panorama are fantastic and it is a club with a big vision. Some girls don’t understand the support that exists for them and we will aim to give them the same standard of attention that we pay the boys. We are going to break down stereotypes and fight for equality,” said Greg, who himself has two football playing daughters, so he understands the unique demands.
Panorama Chairman, Achileas Lambiris, is buzzing at the potential for the club’s future. “In the end, we are looking to get the kids playing overseas. We can groom them from an early age to have the necessary skills. From beginners, they will be given proper mentorship to bring women’s football into the mainstream,” claimed Achileas.
Panorama is inviting all female footballers to the club at 5.30pm on Monday, 18 January for introductory trials. Thereafter, training will be every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6.30pm to 8pm. An enthusiastic Greg is raring to get started, believing firmly, “The area is ripe for development and we know we will uncover some hidden gems here”.
