Lower-ranked league activities halted

Lower-ranked leagues affiliated with the South African Football Association (SAFA) have been ordered to refrain from any football activity until further notice.
Budding football clubs such as Golden Drifters Football Club from the West Rand have been out of action for the greater part of last year, and it seems they are kicking off the year in similar fashion.
The acting president of the club, Fanie Peter Dlamini reflected on the announcement.

“We have been stopped from any footballing activity for now as per the command from SAFA, and we will have to wait until we are informed of any changes; however, we’ve been given the green light to register new players, some of which have been taken in to perform medical fitness tests,” he explained.
He added that another misfortune about this postponement was their inability to perform in the Nedbank Cup as SAFA ruled out all Regional and ABC Motsepe League clubs from the tournament.
In a letter, the football regulatory body apologised for the inconvenience caused; however, cited that it has a responsibility as an association to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus and save lives.
