Dance via Zoom!
Dancers from around the world compete in the first line dance competition - virtually
The first Line Dance competition under the International Professional Dance League was held on Sunday, 11 April at the Dance Palace in Horison. All Covid-19 protocols were certainly observed as the competition was held via Zoom, no less, and judged in London.
With entries from all over the world, more than 40 dancers in different age groups from the local area put their best e-foot forward to impress the judges. The Professional Dance League is an international dance competition that includes genres such as ballroom, Latin, line dance and hip hop.

Strubens Valley resident, Rodney Kruger took part as the only dancer in his age group. “I am 70 years old and was the only dancer in my section. Most of the others dressed as cowboys, so I decided to be different and dress as a sailor. The competition went very well,” he said. The results have not been announced as yet.
Rodney, an avid dancer has been dancing for 12 years. He partakes in ballroom, Latin and line dancing but he admitted that if he had to choose a favourite, it would be ballroom. “I will never stop dancing. It’s like my drug, I just can’t stop,” he explained. American ballet choreographer, George Balanchine’s words definitely ring true, “I don’t want people who want to dance, I want people who have to dance.”
