Florida Albion kicks off multi-week Summer Cup
Tournament running at multiple venues until November 14
To maximise every playing minute possible, Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) has launched the inaugural Summer Cup.
Played across multiple venues from Randburg to Roodepoort, every age group from U/6 to U/17 will get a chance to embrace the sunshine and make up for all the lost playing time suffered over the past 18 months. Florida Albion hosted the first weekend of the Summer Cup, October 16 and will continue to do so until the tournament ends on November 14.

Participating teams range from 16 at U/6 level to 36 for the U10 and U/13s, split into a series of groups for round-robin fixtures. Playing two seven-a-side 30 minute matches per Sunday, the action on the pitch promises to be frantic and fast-paced. Each venue hosts a difference age group and for the next month Florida Albion will host the U/15 to U/17 age groups.
“This was the brainchild of RCLFA chairman, Gordon Naidoo. It is about fun in the sun doing what the kids love and have missed out on for the last two years. In secure, safe environments, playing small-sided football promises more touches on the ball for each player and lots of attacking football. The positive feedback from all corners has been superb,” explained tournament director, Greg Green.

Results were varied but Albion’s U/17 leads the way with two wins in their opening fixtures, beating Gold City Royals and West Rand Sporting, respectively. Hopes are that the Summer Cup becomes the benchmark of season-ending fun, as Greg explained, “The response to the seven versus seven format as an end of season event has been beyond our expectations, which is tremendous”.
