Parkrun Easter fun
The Roodepoort parkrun is going from strength to strength, attracting nearly 450 people despite the public holidays.
The Roodepoort parkrun attracted a whopping 449 participants on Saturday despite it being the Easter holidays.
Race winner Eden Hendricks, in addition to achieving a personal best on the day, also completed his 100th parkrun.
“It was challenging as always, but the cooler weather helped,” he said after crossing the finish line, looking fresh and relaxed.
The day was filled with fun and laughter as the light-heartedness of the public holiday, and the cooler weather, made for a pleasant run.
Many runners achieved personal best times on the day.
If the number of first-timers at Saturday’s run is anything to go by, the Roodepoort parkrun is steadily gaining in popularity, frequently attracting more than 500 runners on a Saturday morning.
Among the regular runners, there were several milestones achieved. Florida Running Club runner Kate Walker-Campbell completed her 400th parkrun, while parkrun volunteer club member, Herman Coetzee completed his 300th.
Kassie Agenbacht completed his 100th parkrun, although this was his first at Roodepoort.
“The Roodepoort parkrun is going from strength to strength,” says run director Birgit McDonald. “We have fantastic volunteers and a beautiful course.”
Some unofficial participants included a small but dedicated group of scouts from the First Horison Scout Group, who, accompanied by their German shepherd Zahra, walked the course, armed with black refuse bags, picking up trash.
