Shane ready to rumble at SA boxing champs
A local boxer's hard work and determination pay off as he prepares for the South African Championships.
An undefeated young boxer from Vikings Boxing Club is once again gearing up to compete in the prestigious SA Championships, taking place in July.
Shane du Plooy is currently fighting in the Welter Weight category (63.5kg to 67kg), and this achievement comes after his exceptional performance at the Gauteng Championships that took place May 15 to 18 in Springs.

He fought two matches against top boxers in Gauteng however, he stood out and emerged victorious in both matches, securing a spot in the SA team.
“That was a very big fight for him,” says his coach and father, Hendrik du Plooy. “He won the first round in an abandoned match and won the second round on points.”
Shane started boxing when he was just eight years and he was very determined to make a name for himself.
“We worked hard to reach this point, and we had to put in extra work. We trained twice a day, visited other clubs,” says Hendrik.
“We are very proud of him, and we are working very hard to make sure he is ready for this fight.”
