Cold morning, warm spirits at Cradle Run

With impressive results and a lively atmosphere, the June edition of the Brooks Cradle Cracker race series was a success for both experienced runners and first-timers.

Nearly 1 000 run-a-holics got together early on Sunday morning, June 29, to showcase their passion for running at Jodev Farms in Teak Place Estate.

Event director for the Brooks Cradle Cracker, Sean Sandiford, said they had 901 entrants, but expected 273 more who backed out due to the cold.

“It was a road run that offered 5km, 10km, 15km, 21km and 28km distances. The 28km was a loop around the Cradle, and the others were an out-and-back [running half the distance and turning back].”

This was the second in the series, and Sean added that the first one was in March, and the last in September, where the route is changed for each race.

“A highlight was that it was a very relaxed, casual and fun day out, professionally run and managed. There were a lot of first-time runners, personal bests, birthdays and other records broken,” he added.

When runners finished, he said they could ring a bell at the finish line and enjoy some of the numerous vendors.
