Roodepoort police constable shines at Whale of Trail race

Constable Kennedy Sekhuthe placed third overall.

A Roodepoort police constable and endurance runner is continuing to prove his remarkable endurance, mental strength, and love for long distances.

Kennedy Sekhuthe recently completed the Whale of Trail race, running an impressive 35km trail in a time of 04:04:22 and placed third overall on the podium in the men’s category.

The race took place on July 26 at the breathtaking De Hoop Reserve, Potberg, Western Cape.

In this race, runners were treated to a scenic journey through spectacular mountain fynbos, technical rocky coastline ridges, calf-killing sandy beaches, and undulating coastal paths.

“It all went according to plan, and the race was absolutely beautiful,” Kennedy said. “I enjoyed going through technical areas on ups and downs, jeep tracks, and beach sand,” he added.

Kennedy started running professionally in 2009 and has completed many long-distance trail races, including the Comrades Marathon and the Addo Elephant Trail Run 100-mile.

Looking ahead, he will be participating in several upcoming events:

• Cape Cobra Trail Marathon in October
• The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon road is also in October
• 65km SkyRun in the second week of November
• Closing the year with the RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town 100-miler

“I am excited for these upcoming challenges,” he concluded.
