Honeydew Bowling Club hosts Ladies Day
The ladies rolled every bowl with laughter, but with a little bit of competition.
The greens at Honeydew Bowling Club (HBC) came alive on Thursday, August 14, as the women at the club hosted a Ladies Day event. Women from various bowling clubs around Gauteng gathered to celebrate this eventful day.
The theme of the day was Colours, and each team showed up in their best matching colourful outfits. The club’s venue was decorated with vibrant colours as well, creating an inviting atmosphere for the guests. Before the day’s games began, each team was assigned their order of play and the field they were to play on.

Jeanette Nadel, the current HBC Ladies Selector and Convener, said the idea behind this day was to have fun together while raising some funds for the club.
“One thing you learn about bowls is that it’s lovely, you meet lovely people. In your late years, it’s wonderful for people to get together and competitively have fun.”
The sunny weather provided the perfect day for the games, and the women enjoyed being in their cool outfits. The matches got off to a slow start as the bowlers were still trying to get themselves into the games, but a few minutes into the game, the pace picked up speed with some bowls placed next to the jacks. To create a fun and energetic atmosphere, there was music playing, and some of the women shared a few dances and sang along to the songs here and there.

When every team was done playing, the women then made their way back into the club, where they found decorated tables with welcome gifts. Each one of them had their favourite drink and they were served with delicious food, including Russian dumplings. Soon after that, the prizegiving event began, with each team winning in the different categories that were presented, including the Best Dressed. The highlight of the day was that there was a prize for everyone, including the winning team.

The bowlers also had an opportunity to purchase bowling kits from Carol Dean from Bowls Shack, as she normally comes to the club on the first Wednesday of the month for bowlers who can’t travel to her store.

As the day came to a close, the women continued to enjoy their day, sharing conversation over their drinks, with some reminiscing about what went down on the field.
