Runners ditch watches during challenge
Roodepoort Athletics Club hosted a challenge for local runners to run without watches.
Ever wondered what it feels like to run free from the constraints of time? No watch, just the pure joy of running?
Roodepoort Athletics Club recently challenged neighbourhood runners to a time trial called the ‘Naked Run’, where participants attempted to predict their 4km time without using a watch.

Runners from Panorama, Florida and Roodepoort Running Club took part in the innovative event, which emphasised camaraderie over competition, allowing participants to focus on the joy of running together.

The day began with registrations, during which participants predicted their 4km times. Only after completing the run were their actual times recorded, and the differences compared to see who came closest to their predicted time.

According to Conrad de Buys, chairperson of Roodepoort Athletics Club, the event aimed to foster unity and interaction among local running clubs.

“This was to bring running clubs together in the neighbourhood to interact and become one,” he explained.

The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, awarding first, second and third place, as well as special prizes for the fastest male and female times. A draw featuring numerous prizes was also held.

Festivities continued with a braai, where runners and their families socialised and enjoyed each other’s company.
