Hensberg delivers the goods

Witpoortjie fighter Jared Hensberg is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with on the professional circuit.

Roodepoort super middleweight pugilist Jared Hensberg squared off against Zimbabwe’s Lawrence Chiyangwain in the opening bout of the Destiny’s Decree Box and Dine Tournament at Emperor’s Palace on Saturday, October 4.

Both fighters had a lot to prove going into the matchup, with this being Chiyangwain’s first bout in the professional standings and Hensberg having only progressed to the professional realm in July.

Having squared off before as amateurs, this was a highly anticipated fight for both fighters. Especially as Jared came off second best during their previous encounter.

Hensberg made his start in the sport at Witpoortjie’s Vikings Amateur Boxing Club as a youth, progressing quickly through the ranks, narrowly missing out on turning professional due to illness in 2023.

The tightly contested bout was a tense affair, with both fighters landing massive blows and neither one giving an inch.

In the end, Hensberg scored a narrow defeat by split decision after four gruelling rounds.
