Golf day drives hope for breast cancer awareness

West Rand Sages hit the golf course for Cansa and scored big for a great cause.

A perfect day on the greens brought together more than just passionate golfers – it united a community with a shared purpose.

The West Rand Sages hosted their annual golf day at the Ruimsig Golf Club to raise funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) in support of breast cancer awareness. The atmosphere was filled with friendly competition, laughter and a collective commitment to making a difference.

As one of 28 branches nationwide, the West Rand Sages proudly holds the title of the third-largest branch in South Africa, with more than 160 active members. According to chairperson Ed Hoffmann, every time a player tees off, they are not only chasing personal bests – their efforts also contribute to Cansa’s cause.

“In 2025 alone, the branch has already raised over R10 000, with the final amount to be donated to Cansa at the close of our financial year. Collectively, Sages National has raised more than R8m in support of cancer awareness, treatment and research over the years. Today brought a much deeper significance to our traditions. The support and enthusiasm from our members are truly inspiring,” said Ed.

Cansa representative Corrien Roro expressed sincere appreciation to the Sages for their continued generosity and support, emphasising how their contributions bring hope to breast cancer survivors and their families.

“We are truly grateful to the West Rand Sages for standing with us in this wonderful initiative. Your ongoing support not only helps raise awareness but also brings real hope and comfort to survivors and their families. Thank you for being part of this life-changing journey,” said Corrien.
