Sisters in sync dominate dance championships

Agape's dance duo are making Gauteng proud, turning their talent and teamwork into gold medals and international recognition.

Dynamic duo Mia (12) and Mila (9) Richards are proving that you can have not one but two talented sisters making waves in the dance industry.

Both dancers are learners from Agapé Christian School and continue to impress judges and audiences alike with their skill and stage presence. Mia earned her Gauteng provincial colours, marking her fourth provincial capping since she began dancing at nine years old. Her commitment to dance and natural flair for performance have seen her excel across multiple categories in the Dance Sport Club League Street Dance National Qualifiers.

Mia’s hard work paid off at the national championships, where she achieved top 10 placements in the U13 female solo, duet, and small group sections, competing against 36 talented dancers from nine provinces. This has earned her a coveted place on the South African (SA) National Team, which will represent the country at an international competition in the United Kingdom (UK) next year.

Following closely in her sister’s footsteps, Mila has also made an impressive mark on the stage. Mila dazzled both judges and spectators, earning first place nationally in the U9 female solo category at the Dance Sport Club League Street Dance National Qualifiers. She was also recently awarded her Gauteng provincial colours and will be showcasing her versatility and artistry at the Dance Stars competition this November, where she will compete in the solo, duet, and group categories.

Competing against 20 dancers from nine provinces, she emerged as the national champion, also qualifying her to represent SA in the UK alongside her sister.

In addition to her achievements, Mila captured the hearts of the judges once again, earning a gold medal for her solo, a special judges’ award for outstanding stage presence, and first place overall as the session winner with the highest score at the SA Dance School Championships.

She also walked away with two additional gold medals for her duet and group performances.
