EDF Team Racing dominates SASCS finale

Top gun racers Ethan and Marnitz end their season on a high note.

Clear skies, roaring engines, and anticipation were thick in the air as riders geared up for the final round of the South African Short Circuit Series (SASCS) Championship at GT Raceway in Vereeniging on November 1.

All eyes were on the EDF Team Racing duo, Ethan de Freitas and Marnitz Otten, ready to end the season in style. From the first lap, it was clear that Ethan meant business. The newly crowned 2025 SM65 Champion set the tone early, storming to pole position with a flawless 1:01.10 lap. His teammate Marnitz wasn’t far behind, setting up a mouthwatering battle for race day.

The first heat saw EDF rocketing into the lead and never looking back as Ethan dominated with an astounding time of 58.27 seconds. He led everyone of the eight laps to take first place with 25 points, and Marnitz chased close behind in second place with 20 points. The second heat brought pure excitement with Marnitz surging into the lead at the first turn, setting up an intense duel between teammates. For three electrifying laps, the pair traded positions and pushed each other to the limit.

On lap five, Ethan made a bold move in a corner that led to a crash and a red flag stoppage. Despite the chaos, Ethan was leading when the flag came out, earning another first-place finish, while Marnitz again secured second. With Ethan sitting in the lead for the third heat, Marnitz seized the moment as he charged ahead and dominated the race, crossing the line with an incredible 12.52-second lead.

As the dust settled on the GT Raceway, the EDF team reigned supreme with Marnitz placing second overall, accumulating 480 points, and Ethan clinching the SASCS Womza Regional Championship with 566 points.

With his championship title secured and momentum on his side, Ethan is already looking ahead to defending his title for the 2026 season.
