Young gymnast shines at district competition

La Salle College learner Lwandle Makamu bags a silver certificate.

La Salle College learner Lwandle Makamu (9) has brought pride to her family by winning a silver certificate at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics District Competition.

The event, held in late September, saw Lwandle perform admirably as part of the Vision Gymnastics team, earning her recognition at both the West Rand district level and provincially by the Central Gauteng Gymnastics Association.

Speaking to the Roodepoort Record, Lwandle said she was at first very nervous, but quickly regained my confidence.
“I could have claimed a gold medal; however, I fell off the beam once and had to add a mat because I was short for the bar. But I’m very happy to have achieved these results.”

Lwandle’s impressive performance is even more remarkable considering she only started gymnastics just over a year ago.

She was also awarded another certificate at an inter-district competition hosted by Junxion Gymnastics Club.
