Badgers Karate duo dominate at trials
Nuha Minty and Leonella Cronje bring home gold and bronze medals.
Two champions from Badgers Karate Academy recently dominated Johannesburg trials, bringing home two gold and a bronze medal.
Nuha Minty (16) and Leonella Cronje (11) recently trialled to be part of the Johannesburg team and have qualified to compete in the Gauteng trials next year.
The trials took place on November 1 in Midrand, and Leonella claimed a bronze medal in Kata and a gold medal in Kumite. While Nuha secured a gold medal for her exceptional kumite.
Both girls told the Roodepoort Record that the competition demanded not only physical stamina but also mental fortitude, yet it was their coach’s words of encouragement that lifted their spirits and spurred them to strive for the best possible results.
“We are very grateful to have made the Johannesburg team, and we are looking forward to winning more in the future,” they expressed.
Additionally, Nuha also competed at the 2025 World Union of Karate-do Federations Championships that took place in Malmö (Sweden) in July.
In this competition, she ranked fifth in the category for Kumite.
Sensei Danika Stevens expressed her pride in her girls, saying they performed well, and she cannot wait to see what the world has in store for them.
