Young Maraisburg golfer to play alongside pros at Nedbank Golf Challenge

CMR Golf Club's Jayden Hoskins tees up for Sun City Pro-Am and a US scholarship.

Jayden Hoskins, a member of the CMR Golf Club, has been making waves in his golf career and is now set to embark on another major chapter.

The 18-year-old St John’s College learner will round off his matric year with a trip to Sun City, where he will play in the Pro-Am tournament preceding the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player in December.

He has also been selected to participate in the Central Gauteng Golf Union team at the SA Junior IPT from December 14 to 29.

Jayden’s passion for golf began at the age of three, and he has been refining his game on both national and international stages ever since.

“I’m one of four local young amateurs who have been invited to play,” he explained.

“Each fourball will have one of the tournament pros and several prominent businessmen in it. I’m really looking forward to playing with one of the top golfers in the world.”

This will not be his first experience of professional golf. Earlier this year, he played in one of the Big Easy Tour events, made the cut, and was ranked 26th out of 86 participants.

“I was the only amateur to do that,” he said, feeling very proud.

He also placed 26th out of 156 juniors when he represented South Africa at the World Junior Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Jayden said those were all highlights, but the standout moment for him was winning the Dainfern College Championships and leading St John’s to victory in the team event – the first golf trophy the school has won in many years.

After matric, he will study sports psychology at Point University in Georgia, United States of America, where he has been awarded a golf scholarship.

“I am looking forward to the experience and to playing college golf, amateur golf at a very high level, for a few years before thinking about turning professional. And to studying and getting a qualification as a backup,” he said.

He thanked his parents for introducing him to the sport, saying they have been supportive and played a major role in his success.
