Help 15-year-old fulfil his soccer dream in the UK

This young soccer player and author of three children's books received a life-changing scholarship in the UK and needs your help.

A young soccer player and author of three children’s books, Bokang Phiri, has received a life-changing opportunity to play soccer abroad.

The 15-year-old received a 50% football and college scholarship at Plymouth College, England, starting this January.

He will be playing and training at Plymouth Argyle International Academy and said this moment is a dream come true and an experience worth its weight in gold.

Bokang started playing soccer at the age of four, and ever since then, it has been his biggest dream to play at an international level.

Outside of soccer, he has dedicated himself to promoting a culture of reading among children, especially in underprivileged communities.

That is why he wrote three children’s books to encourage children to read to understand.

“I am extremely grateful and humbled to receive the 50% scholarship. I see it as a reward for years of hard work, discipline, and sacrifice.

“The scholarship also eases the financial burden on my family and allows me to focus fully on developing soccer skills while pursuing my education. Being in a professional environment with quality coaching and exposure will play a major role in shaping my soccer career and opening future opportunities,” he shared.

Even though he already left South Africa for this opportunity, he still requires financial assistance, and his family has started a BackaBuddy campaign to support ongoing costs such as remaining school fees, including boarding, training, academic materials, and living expenses.

According to his father, Thato Phiri, any little continued support from the community will make a significant difference in helping him settle well and succeed in this new chapter.
