The Westgate Family Run hosted by Roodepoort Athletics Club will be returning to Westgate Shopping Centre on February 8, this time bigger and better.
The race, which previously offered a 5km and a 10km distance, will now also offer a 21km distance.
According to the chairperson of the club, Conrad de Buys, this fun-filled event promises to be an exciting morning of exercise, camaraderie and community spirit, accommodating anyone regardless of age or fitness level.
The race will start at 06:00, starting and ending at the Westgate’s Entrance 2.
“We were thrilled with the success of last year’s event, but this year we’re taking it to the next level, and we’re extending an open invitation to all athletes to join us,” said Conrad.
With a team of around 60 club members on hand to assist on race day, Conrad is confident that the event will be well-organised and enjoyable for all participants. He specifically encouraged athletes training for the Comrades Marathon to take part, calling it ‘a great training route’.
Entry fees are as follows:
• 21 km – R220 (Grandmasters R80)
• 10km – R160 (Grandmasters R70)
• 5km – R90 (Grandmasters R60)
Temp licences:
• 21km – R70
• 10km – R60
All finishers will receive a medal, a goodie bag, and T-shirts will be on sale. Prize money and spot prizes will also be up for grabs.
