Roodepoort Athletics Club runners impress at Biogen 21km
The Biogen 21km attracted thousands of runners and featured a 5km fun run too.
Roodepoort Athletics Club’s 12-member strong contingent put in a stellar performance at the Biogen 21km, affectionately known as Gauteng’s Premier Half Marathon, on Sunday, January 11.
The race, hosted by Bedfordview Athletics Club, attracted thousands of athletes from far and wide, as well as local runners eager to test their mettle against the best in the region.
The Biogen 21km course, which winds its way through the scenic and hilly route of Bedfordview and Primrose, also featured a 5km fun run, adding to the event’s festive atmosphere.

The Roodepoort Athletics Club team was largely dominated by females, with Keabetswe Moletsane claiming top spot in an impressive time of 1:39:32. Portia Nyathi and Yolandah Seele rounded out the top three in the women’s category with times of 2:20:08 and 2:29:57, respectively.
In the men’s category, Ronald Hlongwane matched Moletsane’s time, taking the top spot with 1:39:32. Herman Bloem secured second place with a time of 2:50:31.
Club chairperson Conrad de Buys praised the athletes’ efforts, saying they performed exceptionally well.
