Triple Threat celebrates major award wins

The dojo's success turned heads at the event and serves as a reflection of the fighters' dedication to the sport.

Triple Threat Dojo has wrapped up an exceptional year after taking home multiple accolades at the World Kickboxing Union (WKU) K1 SA Awards, held recently in Pretoria.

The local kickboxing gym, which is affiliated with WKU K1 SA, focuses on the K1 style of kickboxing and was nominated in 10 different categories at the awards ceremony. The team brought home five major awards from the event.

Head coach Wade Rendall received two top honours, winning both Coach of the Year and Promoter of the Year. The award for Fight of the Year went to Brett Heslop, while Ntokozo Khoza was named Up-and-Coming Fighter of the Year. Triple Threat also took home the evening’s highest honour, Gym of the Year.

Several other fighters from the gym were also recognised with nominations, including Jagger Nemeth, Rachelle Seyfferdt, Bianca Pretorius, JD Moolman, Thando Mahlangu and Chloe Assad.

Rendall said the awards were especially meaningful given the gym’s recent transition into the K1 discipline. K1 is a blend of elements from Karate, Boxing, and Muay Thai. It allows punches, kicks, and single knee strikes, with brief clinching for sweeps; with strict rules against elbows and headbutts.

“This has been an incredible year for Triple Threat, and what makes it even more special is that we only transitioned into K1 at the beginning of 2025,” he said.

These achievements in the national awards show the gym and its fighters’ quick improvement in a short space of time, establishing Triple Threat as one of the leading kickboxing gyms in the country.
