Young swimmer claims open water silver medal
His courage and focus earned him his top spot, even though the day was not easy.
Deanté James, a young swimmer from Trinityhouse Little Falls, made his mark at the Go Sports Open Water Swim at Prime View on Sunday, January 25, by finishing second in the U15 age group.
According to his mother, Sonica, the race was not easy, but Deanté pushed through with determination and focus to claim a well-deserved silver medal against older and more experienced swimmers. “He was so proud of himself, because there were big boys swimming that race and he made it to second place,” she said.

“The race was quite challenging, the conditions were not the best, but seeing his commitment is deeply inspiring, and it’s impossible not to feel immense pride in an achievement that speaks so clearly to his character and capabilities,” she said.
She added that watching him compete was a proud and inspiring moment. “Watching him complete his open water race was really a reminder of what his determination, discipline, and courage can achieve.”
Sonica also shared a special moment from the race. “I asked him yesterday, ‘My boy, what do you do when those currents are so hectic?’ He said to me, ‘Mom you deal with them,’” she said. Deanté’s performance highlights his dedication to swimming and shows he has a bright future ahead in the sport.
