Roodepoort parkrunners brave the cold

Not even the icy conditions at Saturday's parkrun could deter determined athletes from taking part.

More than 360 runners and a team of 32 volunteers braved the icy cold conditions on Saturday morning, June 6, for the weekly parkrun in Len Rutter Park.

The cold made itself known in the results, with the race winner, Siphelele Ncayiyana, finishing well under the race average in 21:44.

Godwin Matazu and Enver Samuel cross the finish line together.

Longtime Roodepoort parkrunner Charlie Strydom clinched second place in 22:27, also well below his usual brisk pace.

Maryna Bijker, the first woman across the finish line, took third place, looking much more comfortable in the cold weather, and setting a time of 23:06.

The second woman over the finish line was Stephanie Ngezahayo, who took 19th place overall in a time of 26:57.

There was no shortage of race milestones achieved on the day, with Windi Hill completing her 50th parkrun and Yolande van Heerden finishing her 150th.
