Poorte kick off youth rugby season

Roodepoort Rugby Club held an open day and welcomed junior recruits with open arms.

Roodepoort Rugby Club kicked off their junior season with an open day on May 2 at Hoërskool Florida.

According to the manager for the junior teams, Gavin Coetzee, the day was held to introduce the coaches, register players, order kits, and iron out any questions before the season starts.

“Coaches used the time to start running a few drills with the players and getting them accustomed to the way we do things,” he adds.

“Our team managers were all on hand to answer any questions parents might have.”

Coetzee is very excited about this season.

“I’m very optimistic, and if the numbers are anything to go by, I think it’s going to be a good one. We had 60 juniors last year, which has more than doubled this year, with 130 players signing up.

“We also held our first practice session, and that went very well.”

He says it is still not too late to join.

They practice every Monday and Wednesday at the school at 18:00, and invite juniors who want to develop their game to join in.
