Pupils to try their hand at writing

ORANGE GROVE - Orange Grove Primary School's library, which is run by a group of dedicated volunteers, was filled with excitement when Grade 1 pupils were given blank books in which to write their own stories.

The books were given to the pupils to be brought back in the new term next year, hopefully filled with lovely stories.

Library volunteer, Marion Bloch said, “As you can see, myself and the volunteers are extremely passionate about the library which we established ourselves in 2012 from a ramshackle building on the school’s premises.”

The library has a band of dedicated helpers, who devote their time twice a week to read to all the foundation phase classes.

Bloch said, “You will hear the children constantly affirming ‘I can do it’ and ‘If I can’t do it the first time, I will try and try again’.”

Volunteers urge community members to donate books to the library.

“We will persevere and never give up hope. Our cause is too important, trying in some small way to alleviate this terrible scourge of illiteracy that plagues our beautiful country,” said Bloch.
