SANDRINGHAM High School has achieved an 85,71 percent pass rate from the 200 pupils who sat for the National Senior Certificate Examinations in 2015.

Co-acting principal, Seetha Naidoo, said she was happy with the pass rate despite dropping by 5 percent from last year.

“Considering the challenges (we have been without a principal for three years now) obviously we would like to improve the rate this year, but generally, the staff should be happy with their efforts,” said Naidoo.

She said mathematics and science were one of the reasons for the drop in percentage, both nationally and at the school. “Overall, if you look nationally, the problem is maths and science. Another reason for the decline is that the standard of the papers this year has been higher,” she said.

Jessica Ngwenya, who achieved distinctions in mathematics, life sciences, IsiZulu and English, said the hard work she put in during the year paid off. She also encouraged upcoming Grade 12 pupils to stay focused despite the challenges they will face. “My message to the 2016 matrics is that they should work hard from the word go and they should never give up because along the way they will come across some challenges,” said Ngwenya.
