Top 10 at Kingsmead College

MELROSE – Kingsmead College once again celebrated a 100 percent matric pass rate, with every matriculant also qualifying for Bachelor’s degree entry.

The following 10 pupils yielded impressive results:

Carmen Botes – 10 distinctions

“I’ve applied for astronomy, astrophysics, architecture and a general BA and haven’t decided which to study yet,” said Botes. “If I can’t decide, I’ll take a gap year and, hopefully, go to France for a while to improve my French.”

Daniella Carvalheiro – nine distinctions

Carvalheiro intends to study medicine at either the University of Cape Town or Stellenbosch where she hopes to eventually specialise in paediatrics. She loves to play the clarinet and piano in her spare time.

Kira Coetzee – nine distinctions

Coetzee intends to study veterinary sciences at the University of Pretoria. Her hobbies are photography and horse riding. “Kingsmead has been a wonderful experience for me throughout my 14 years at the school,” she said.

Alexandra Sidley – nine distinctions

Sidley will study a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Cape Town. “I’m hoping to also take up English,” she said. “I like the way Kingsmead’s teachers teach… it’s a very progressive way of teaching, it’s not prescriptive. We’ve learnt a lot about how to think and… structure facts logically.”

Minyon Ferrero – eight distinctions

Ferrero will study a Bachelor of Accounting degree at the University of Pretoria. She has a training contract with Deloittes. “I love the cultural life at Kingsmead College. The inter-house arts has always been my favourite event.”

Mishka Naidoo – eight distinctions

Naidoo intends to study Business Science at the universities of Cape Town or Witwatersrand. “I play squash and netball as well as the clarinet,” said Naidoo. “I also enjoy being in nature and learning things about animals. The people were the best part about Kingsmead, every day was a highlight.”

Natalie Speed-Andrews – eight distinctions

Speed-Andrews intends to study a Business Science degree at the University of Cape Town, following which she will complete her articles at Deloitte in order to become a qualified chartered accountant. “I’m a huge sport fanatic and I enjoy interacting with people and socialising,” she said. “My highlight at Kingsmead was attending the Global Young Leaders Conference in New York.”

Amy Bouwer – seven distinctions

A keen and accomplished musician, Bouwer will study a Bachelor of Arts degree at Rhodes University. Amy won a scholarship to the university as she achieved a place in the top 50 in the English Olympiad.

Amelia Warren – Ranked in the top 1 percent nationally for dramatic arts and English

Warren was Kingsmead’s head girl of 2015 and intends to study a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics, philosophy, French and English at either the University of the Witwatersrand or the University of Cape Town.

Arabella Rogerson – six distinctions

Rogerson intends to study a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Cape Town in English, art history and media studies. “The dream is to go into animation and work at Pixars in San Fransisco. I’ve visited there and was very inspired!”
