A new year, a new red at KES

HOUGHTON – King Edward VII School has wasted no time in getting into the swing of things and has greeted a new group of Grade 8 pupils and a number of new staff members to their ‘red’ team.

“A warm King Edward welcome to our new academic staff members joining King Edward VII School this year,” said spokesperson for the school, Lisa Slooten.

“Headmaster, David Lovatt welcomed the new staff and wished them all the very best for 2016 and trusted that their tenure at King Edward’s will be a happy, long and successful journey.”

The new teachers at KES are:

  •  James Gaunt, who will be teaching engineering graphics and design, and technology
  • Terry Bremmer will be teaching English
  • Jem van Vuuren will be in charge of physical education and admissions
  • Grant McKenzie will be teaching life and natural sciences
  • Oscar Chopamba is the new physical science teacher
  • Greta du Plessis and Carlien Murray will be teaching Afrikaans
  • Jonathan von Hoesslin will be teaching life orientation and social sciences.

Slooten also wanted give a ‘red’ welcome to the 245 Grade 8s of 2016 who started the next round of orientation at the school on 12 January, marking the first day of their high school careers with the school’s “tradition of excellence” since 1902.

“Some boys are the first of their families to start at KES, many others are following generations of Old Boys from the school,” Slooten continued.

“Class of 2020 – make your mark, find your place and strive for excellence in all that you do.”
