A slide has been added to the entrance of the newly-built preschool, adding adventure to the pupil’s day by sliding into the school premises.
The new building took just over a year to build and comprises 14 modern classrooms, a media centre, a library, music rooms and therapy rooms.
The windows of the classrooms are circles, ovals, squares, triangles and rectangles so the children can familiarise themselves with the different shapes.
In addition, there is a magnificent landscaped garden and playground area, specially designed to accommodate the developmental stages of all the children from playschool through to Grade R.
King David Pre-Primary School principal, Sheva Messias, picked a number of different jungle gym items which allow for the stimulation of mind and body. Messias said, “I do not see this as a nursery school, I call it an adventure park.”
The grounds also have a number of vegetable patches, where teachers plant vegetables and fruit with their pupils in the hope that they will grow to love their vegetables both in the garden and on their plates.
There is also a sensory garden containing different plants with a variety of textures and sizes for the pupils to kick-off their senses. Messias said, “We decided on a sensory garden containing different plants with different textures, sizes and smells for the children.”
The school caters for children with special needs, remediating or extending them where necessary. Speech therapists, occupational therapists, a sensory integration occupational therapist and a physiotherapist are present on the Linksfield King David campus and are available to provide therapy when necessary.
The pre-primary had 209 pupils in attendance last year, which has increased to a total of 245 pupils this year.
