Link up at Orange Grove Primary

ORANGE GROVE - Last year, some 50 volunteers joined together to fight illiteracy and link together at Orange Grove Primary School.

The volunteers at the school are part of the Link Literacy Project, which is a non-profit organisation that supports the development of literacy and numeracy in children for whom English is a second language.

These volunteers help in English reading, phonetics and practising the alphabet. Volunteers also make learning pronouns, prepositions and letter formation a fun experience for all pupils.

The programme was founded by the late Margi Bashall who used to say, “Kids are magic.” Volunteer Andy Marks said, “We work with our magical kids twice a week.”

The Link programme runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 12pm. This year they are looking for more volunteers, not only for the Tuesday and Thursday English programme; but also a Monday and Wednesday for a basic maths programme.

If you are able to assist and volunteer to make a difference, please get in touch with the group.
